THE PROGRAM

Half Hour and Hour Sessions will be offered in the following disciplines:

PIANO I
This course introduces beginners to piano through weekly individualized lessons. Participants will learn the keyboard, proper posture, eye and hand coordination, hand positions, basic fingering techniques, history of the piano, chord building and piano etiquette. Participants will play easy solos, hymns and duets. Each person enrolled will be expected to perform in a recital at the end of the Spring Semester.
Requirements/Prerequisites: Ages 5 and up. Must know the alphabet and have an interest in music.

PIANO II
This course is designed for the individual who has previous experience in piano or a continuation of Piano I. Emphasis will be on the fundamentals of music, basic music theory, fingering exercises, liturgical music, hymns, spirituals, mass, gospel, sight reading, rhythmic accuracy and dynamic control. Enrolled participants will be expected to perform in a recital at the end of the Spring Semester.
Requirements/Prerequisites: Must have basic knowledge of piano and some playing experience or 
Piano I or Placement Examination.

ORGAN I
Private instruction in organ emphasizing the development of both technique and repertoire. This course is designed for the individual who has a basic knowledge of the keyboard, based upon principles taught in Piano II and will include preparatory pedal exercises to develop pedal technique. The focus of this workshop is upon identification of organ, stops, and registrations manual orientation found in church music. Short organ selections by Bach, Mendelsohn, Brahms and Afro-American composers.

ORGAN II
This course is designed for the individual who has previous experience in organ or a continuation of Organ II. Persons enrolling in this class are required to perform various pieces in class and the student recital. Course will consist of advanced manual and pedal technique with an emphasis on church music.
Requirements/Prerequisites: Organ I or Placement Exmaination

ELEMENTARY KEYBOARD (GROUP, SENIOR CITIZENS GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL)
Beginning course on the electronic keyboard. This workshop will help familiarize persons on basic keyboard terminology, how to use the given sounds on their instrument and teach beginning sequence recording techniques on a keyboard.
Requirements/Prerequisites: Keyboard.

ADVANCED KEYBOARD (GROUP)
Intermediate to early advanced approach on the keyboard as it relates to the computer and MIDI. Different software titles will be explored to teach music writing and advanced sequencing on a desktop or laptop computer. Proficient keyboard skills and some knowledge of the computer are required.

VOICE I (INDIVIDUAL)
Private instruction providing an introduction to the basic principles of singing which includes special emphasis upon posture, breath support, ease, naturalness, free tone, pure vowels, song interpretation and sight singing. This workshop offers practice and application based upon these principles.

VOICE II (INDIVIDUAL)
Private instruction with an emphasis on application and critical analysis upon the principles taught in Voice I.
Requirements/Prerequisites: Voice I or Placement Examination
